ALT 104.5 WINTER JAWN
Winter Jawn, Xfinity Live, Philadelphia, PA. 1/27/25.
I’ve been coming to Winter Jawn for many years now and every December I start to get excited to see who’s going to be on the upcoming lineup. The day it was released I was super excited to see that Gigi Perez would be opening the day, an artist with an incredible voice with increasing popularity from “Sailor Song” that has been blowing up on social media. Although it was a short set she definitely dazzled the crowd with her unique voice and showed off her guitar skills as well. When it was finally time for “Sailor Song” she got the entire audience to sing along. The next band on stage was Dexter & the Moonrocks and their drummer decided to run onto the stage shirtless in freezing temperatures shotgun a beer and then lead them into a very metal-esque instrumental riff to start their set. They played a really cool cover of Surf Curse’s “Freaks” that got the crowd dancing along and then decided to open up the mosh pit and brought out some more heavy stuff. The next band onto stage was Badflower, who had a ton of fans in attendance which the singer even pointed out he loved seeing all of the Badflower merch being worn as he looked around. As usual Badflower did not disappoint with their incredible vocals from Josh Katz and wild stage presence from both guitarists. The Philly crowd was bummed when their 9 song set was over because they wanted more Badflower but then were quickly reminded headliner Judah & the Lion was still yet to come. Judah Akers and his bandmates came running onto stage with a loud ovation from the audience. I think everyone in attendance was blown away by how much energy they brought from the start of their set all the way to the end. They led off with “Heartbreak Syndrome” a new song off of their “The Process” album to get the crowd fired up. They really got the crowd into the set when they played “Suit and Jacket” an Alt 104.5 favorite that got everybody feeling nostalgic. They kept the nostalgia going by covering and all time classic “My Own Worst Enemy” by Lit and then rolled that right into “Snap Yo Fingers” by Lil Jon. All the fans continued to brave the cold for the rest of the set and gave the band a huge ovation for the incredible energy they brought all night. Another great Winter Jawn in the books.
