An evening with Joy Oladokun

The night began as any show does: with an opener. But, with a bit of a twist. Singer-songwriter Joy Oladokun was opening up for herself. She started the show acoustic, sprinkling in cover songs like “Rocket Man” and “Hallelujah” in with her originals. Oladokun’s powerhouse voice was most on display during this portion of the show. Just an artist, their guitar, and their words.

After a brief intermission Oladokun invited her band on stage with her. Bassist Gray Schweers, keyboardist Malone, and drummer April Jane Lee joined the show, and immediately the camaraderie was palpable. Lee, who also plays bass for Becca Mancari, shines behind any instrument they play. Schweers and Oladokun vibed off each other through the whole set, while Malone held things down at the keys. They were all clearly having so much fun with an audience who adored every second.

Oladokun’s most recent album, OBSERVATIONS FROM A CROWDED ROOM was released in October 2024.
