ORVILLE PECK
Orville Peck, The Met, Philadelphia, PA. 10/18/24.
I had Orville Peck in Philadelphia marked on my calendar for a very long time. Being one of my favorite musicians of our time I couldn’t wait to finally see Orville in person. The opener was Nikki Lane a country singer from South Carolina. She played a great set and told a story about how the last time she was in Philadelphia she pushed a fan at the merch table because he saw him take a CD. The crowd gave her a big applause for embodying the Philly spirit. In between sets you could see all the cool outfits in the crowd including a green light up cowboy hat. Orville came out to a huge ovation from the crowd and started off with “Big Sky” the perfect song to showcase Orville’s incredible voice. The second song “Turn to Hate” showed off what a good performer Orville is. He jumped up in the air and then ran over to the drumset and played all along the back risers. A highlight of the set was when he asked if there were any truck drivers in the audience. When someone named Austin replied that he was a truck driver, he went on to play “Drive Me Crazy” a crowd favorite. Another great moment in the show was when he told everyone about how “some old guy wanted to make a song with him” talking about the legendary Willie Nelson and then proceeded to play “Cowboys Are Secretly Fond of Each Other”. When Orville played “Dead of Night” his most popular song that everyone in attendance knew the lyrics to. After closing out with “Daytona Sand” the crowd was able to will him back out with one more to which he finished with “Bronco”. I already can’t wait to see Orville Peck in Philadelphia again.
