AMON AMARTH
Amon Amarth, The Fillmore, Philadelphia, PA. 5/13/24.
Amon Amarth is always one of the craziest shows you can see. Listed as a Swedish Melodic Death metal band that has lyrics relating to Vikings you know you’re bound to see something you’ve never seen before. The show opened with Cannibal Corpse an American death metal band from Buffalo, New York with a large following. All over the crowd you could see Cannibal Corpse t-shirts and merch. The singer came out wearing a shirt that said “Respect the Neck” in regards to his muscular neck from all of the head banging he does all set long. The crowd instantly connected with the band and the crowd surfing/mosh pit began on the very first song. He got the crowd pumped up when he told everyone to try and head bang as hard as he does and then went into their most popular song; “Shooting Blood Out of Your C***.” He asked the crowd if they wanted more music to which they screamed for more. They played two more songs and then left to a huge ovation from the crowd. When Amon Amarth dropped the curtain for their set everyone got to marvel at the incredible stage set up. They came out to “The Pursuit of Vikings”, “Tattered Banners of Bloody Flags”, and “Guardians of Asgaard”. During the song “Deceiver of Gods” they brought out someone dressed as Loki and he made his way all the way around the stage until he was shoved away by the singer. When they played “Put Your Back Into the Oar” the entire crowd oared along to the music it was a very cool moment. They finished their set with “Raise Your Horns” and then left the stage to a huge ovation. The audience was able to will them out for one more song and they played “Twilight of the Thunder God” and then thanked Philadelphia for an amazing night.
