THE VACCINES
The Vaccines, Union Transfer, Philadelphia, PA. 1/16/25.
Getting to see the Vaccines twice in one year is a great year, so when I saw they were coming to Union Transfer I knew I’d have to be there. The opener for the show was Thus Love, an American self-styled queer post punk rock band who formed during Covid. The band had a very cool sound and was the perfect pairing for The Vaccines. The Vaccines came running out onto the stage and instantly went into “Love to Walk Away” as Justin Hayward Young ran all around the stage greeting the fans on both sides of the stage. When the band broke into all time hit “Post Break Up Sex” the crowd went wild, jumping up and down with their hands in the air. After that they played my all time favorite with the song “Wetsuit” which I sang along to the entire song. Justin then talked to the crowd saying in the last year they’ve had such a fun time playing their new album “Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations” and asked the crowd if they were ready to hear some songs from that album. They went back a little in time and played “Jump Off The Top” another punk anthem that can get the crowd moving around. They closed out with “All in White” and then encored to play 4 more songs and then thanked Philadelphia for a special night.
