SLAUGHTER BEACH, DOG

Slaughter Beach, Dog, Philly Music Fest Night 1, Ardmore Music Hall, Ardmore, PA. 10/21/24.

Night one of Philly Music Fest was bound to be a blast with the prodigal son Jacob Ewald returning to Philadelphia. Jake’s former band Modern baseball was an emo band heavily tied into the underground Philly music scene. His new project Slaughter Beach, Dog has a similar sound and same incredible songwriting. The show started with Santa Chiara an Italian cellist who played her album “imported”. The second band of the night was Hurry who picked up the pace a little bit and got the crowd moving along and ready for some Slaughter Beach, Dog. You could tell Slaughter Beach, Dog had all their true fans in the audience because from the very start of the show until the end the crowd was singing along to every word. They opened up with three of their most popular songs “Strange Weather”, “Gold and Green”, and my personal favorite “Acolyte”. A major highlight in the set was when they played a cover of Modern Baseball’s “Intersection” a way to get into some big guitar solos. They closed with the song “Engine” and broke into some incredible guitar riffs where the singer and the guitarist played face to face for minutes. It was the perfect way to start off Philly Music Fest.
