A ‘Sublime’ Night With Sarah Kinsley

Singer-songwriter Sarah Kinsley stunned audiences at Royale on Sunday. In early September, Kinsley released her debut album, Escaper, and immediately hypnotized fans with her resonant vocals. It was a brisk and lively evening in Boston as fans lined up around the block to hear their favorite tracks from Escaper live for the first time. Many immediately hopped into the merchandise lines, signing the guest book at the table and grabbing a friendship bracelet handmade and designed by Kinsley and her team.

Ha Vay took the stage first, charming the audience with their melodic tunes. Lead singer Maddy Toy skipped out in a blue babydoll dress and guitarist Christopher Kenji wore a black bedazzled vest and pants set. They performed to a captivated audience, with the standout track “Moon Girl” displaying Toy's vocal range and ability during the riffs.

Soon after, the lights dimmed again, and the audience released thunderous roars. Kinsley stepped into the spotlight in a flowy black dress, diving into the powerful track “Lovegod.” Her vocals remained strong as she danced and jumped across the stage, a testament to her stamina. Soon after, Kinsley pulled out the contact mic, a piece of technology she uses to add intrigue and ethereality to her performances. When she stopped to chat with the audience, many fans put up heart hands and screamed.

Kinsley proclaimed that it was her “biggest headline show to date,” a record I expect her to soon break as she continues to gain mainstream success. She held the energy throughout the night, boasting vocals that sounded exactly like the studio recordings. Her vulnerable songwriting enticed the audience and left them wanting more, even after her two-song encore. If you haven’t already, make sure to catch Sarah Kinsley live before her tour concludes in November. Buy tickets here.
