MAGGIE LINDEMANN
Maggie Lindemann, The Troubadour, Los Angeles, CA. 5/29/24.
On May 29th, Maggie Lindemann performed her second show of HEADSPLIT: Live From The Troubadour in Los Angeles. These shows were the first since a sold-out global tour; a second show was added after selling out the night before. Lindemann is fresh off the release of her EP “HEADSPLIT", with 8 tracks ranging from hyper-pop to nu metal, further defining her genre-blending sound. The packed crowd at the Troubadour started chanting “Maggie” in unison when it was time for her to start her set. She came out in big hoop earrings, a red mini skirt, and furry black leg warmers. At just 25 years old, the singer-songwriter has accomplished a lot since her career as a pop artist started in 2015. With a loyal fan base that is comprised of a youth and young adult demographic, everyone at the show was singing (or mostly screaming) the words along with Lindemann. She brought out fellow artist Siiickbrain to perform their collaborations “deprecating” and “break me!” from “HEADSPLIT” and her 2022 debut album “SUCKERPUNCH” respectively. She also brought out Jasiah to do their song “taking over me”, the final track on the new EP, which was a big standout of the show. As part of a newer generation of singers that are more likely to rely on backing tracks and have a lack of stage presence, I was pleased to find out that doesn't apply to Maggie Lindemann at all. She kept the constant energy going the entire show, engaged heavily with the crowd, even bringing up a fan to sing during “24” (who was very good as well), and often sang directly to people taking a video of her. Her voice never failed, especially on songs like “Loner”, “you hold my love”, and “hostage”, which really showed off her vocal prowess. Whenever she had a guest singer out with her, she would give them the stage and the spotlight, standing off to the side so they could have their moment. After leaving the stage and coming back for an encore, the crowd chanting her name again, she brought Siiickbrain and Jasiah back out to perform “GASLIGHT!”, ending the show on a high note. For her second time ever performing “HEADSPLIT”, Lindemann delivered a great, high-energy show, with the parents on the balcony even getting into it.
