JOE P

Joe P, Brooklyn Bowl, Philadelphia, PA. 12/6/24.

On December 6th Asbury Park New Jersey native Joe P, made a stop at Brooklyn Bowl in Philadelphia. It was a drastic increase in venue size to see him play a space two times the capacity from the last time I had seen him (at the Foundry). The opener for the show was Anna Shoemaker, a folk pop artist from Philadelphia. The local crowd loved her set especially when she played her song “Game of Thrones” a song about daily woes. When Joe came out it was pitch black the band started out with a long jam that continued building with intensity which got everyone in attendance dancing along right out of the gate. The band led off with the song “Everybody’s Different” a new song off of the Garden State Vampire album and then went into their hit song “Leaves” from the Emily Can’t Sing album. Midway through the show Joe had the band leave the stage and began to tell a story about how he spoke to his mom on the phone and she told him she liked the flower theme he had going on in his music and that how he or no one else had ever mentioned that to him. That story led him into a solo acoustic version of the song “Lily” an emotional ballad that everyone could sing along to. The band came back onto the stage and they played an all time hit “Color TV” which got everyone in the audience’s cellphones out to record their favorite song. It was an incredible night in Philadelphia and I can’t wait to see where Joe plays next.
