THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS

They Might Be Giants at Union Transfer.

I was excited for this show because it was at one of my favorite Philly music venues with a band I’ve liked for a long time. When I arrived at the show everyone was given hats that looked like birthday hats and masks because they are very health conscious and even mentioned it during the show they appreciated everyone listening and that in 2023 everyone was still willing to wear masks. There was no opener for the show so the band came right out and played some of their hits including “Brontosaurus” in which he dedicated to the horn section and one of my favorites “Birdhouse in Your Soul”. With some witty banter between songs they talked about how their one meal of the day was a cheesesteak because if you come to Philadelphia you better get a Philly cheesesteak. They then went into their obsession with gritty and when they called him a big idiot the crowd started jokingly booing until he said he really loved gritty which switched to the crowd to loud cheers. They went back into playing songs and were moving all over the stage holding their guitars over their head, and playing alongside one another. After about a good hour of the crowd jumping up and down and a full intro of the band they took an intermission. After the break they went right back into it and the crowd was loving every minute of it. They played two of their all time hits later in the set with “Don’t Let’s Start” and “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)” which everyone in the crowd was singing along to. Just when you thought it was over the crowd got them to do not just one but two encores. It was an amazing night in Philadelphia, some lucky people would get to come back for another night!
