Palisades Reaching Hypercritical Album Review

Prior to the album releasing I had gotten a small taste of what was coming with the release of their song “Sober”. This was such a cool new sound we were hearing out of Palisades since the switch of their lead singer from Lou Micelli (who had recently decided to leave the band) to bassist Brandon Elgar stepping up as lead vocalist. The album leads off with a bang with my favorite song off the album “My Consequences” which has the classic heavy Palisades instrumentals and really highlights Brandon’s vocal range which gives off a strong Linkin Park vibe. With title song “Reaching Hypercritical” next we get another song the band new was going to be a hit with its fast paced chorus that makes you want to jump up and down even if you’re listening to it in your room. Another very notable song of this album is “Better” which you know is going to end up being a classic Palisades song that you just find yourself screaming along to in your car. The album follows it up by slowing it down with “Fray” that gives a much softer sound that has continuous crescendos throughout the song into amazing drops that remind you you’re listening to a metal album. They go right back into the heavy stuff with “Sick of the Attitude” and stick with that until the perfect closing number with the fitting title of “Closure”. The song gives major Chester Bennington vibes and feels like a ballad where you can feel the emotion of Brandon Elgar pouring his heart into this first album. Overall this is a great Palisades album and amazing debut album for Brandon Elgar as lead vocalist, I can’t wait to see how the band follows this up.
