Are You Serious?
Singer/songwriter and rapper K.Flay kicked off the first night of the entirely sold out MONO: LIVE IN STEREO tour in Los Angeles. The crowd warmed up to local alt-rock opening act Vienna Vienna, who have only one single (“Blame It On Us”) available on streaming platforms. They started out heavy, while sprinkling in some softer, melancholic songs, as well as a powerhouse ballad that felt larger than life. When it was time for K.Flay to begin her set, a boxing inspired introduction played over the speakers. She came out sporting a black eye, boxing gloves, and a robe with “Punisher” written on the back, after her song on “MONO”. Released in 2023, “MONO” is K.Flay’s fifth studio album; the first track “Are You Serious?” was her first song of the night, which references how she became deaf in her right ear in 2022. She told the crowd “you can go half deaf and still make a pretty sick record”, and the ecstatic cheers from the entire room clearly agreed with her. She played 8 songs from “MONO” out of the 21 songs in the entire set, and the crowd loved every second of it, some of them even rapping every word of her deep cuts that are harder to keep up with. She finished the night with the live debut of “Perfectly Alone”, the powerful closer on MONO. It was obvious that K.Flay, her band, and her team put in a lot of effort to make this tour special, and it worked.
Be sure to catch K.Flay the next time she comes to your city, you won’t regret it!
