FRUIT BATS

Fruit Bats at Brooklyn Bowl, Philadelphia, PA. 4/19/23.

It’s always a pleasure to shoot one of your favorite bands in one of your favorite venues. The opener for the show was HC McEntire a female led folk band from North Carolina. She had a powerful voice and was backed by an electric guitar, bass, and drums. She broke into some really big guitar solo’s that got the crowd super into her set and at one point she mentioned she’d never played a venue where she was actively rooting for people to hit a strike while she was singing (Brooklyn Bowl). By the time Fruit Bats took the stage the venue was completely full and everyone was super excited for them to lead off with two of their big hit songs “Casadera” and “Bottom of It” which set the tone for the rest of the show. When you go to a Fruit Bats show you don’t typically expect huge guitar and hair shaking but singer Eric Donald Johnson gives the crowd a real show. They gave the crowd an amazing performance and got a big laugh when he said this will be our final song but obviously I’m going to come back and play a few more. They encored and closed out with their all time hit of “Humbug Mtn Song” and it sounded incredible live. I highly recommend seeing Fruit Bats if they come to city near you.
