ANNIE DIRUSSO/CALEB HEARON
Annie DiRusso/Caleb Hearon, The Foundry, Philadelphia, PA. 3/30/24.
The Annie DiRusso and Caleb Hearon show is one big party.
The two of them together brought an energy unlike any I've ever felt at The Foundry. It was fun and funny all around.
During Annie DiRusso’s set, Hearon could be seen watching from the side stage, right next to the pit. And during the stand-up set, DiRusso and her band were right there, laughing along with the rest of us.
Hearon was laugh out loud funny. In one particularly good bit, he tells the story of someone he used to hook up with who asked him to role play. Against his better judgement, he said yes, and soon fell into what may have been his partner’s audition for a professor role. Fake shuffling of papers and all.
Annie DiRusso’s set was short and sweet, and she had The Foundry crowd captivated. She packed her performance full of choreography and call-backs to Hearon’s best jokes. She opened the set with “Nine Months,” my favorite song, and probably her most popular.
In lieu of an encore, Hearon and opener Majestee joined the band on stage for a karaoke session of Justin Bieber’s (arguably) best song “Baby.”
After putting mics in the faces of the people at the barricade, myself included, everyone who was on stage eventually found their way into the crowd to dance together as one big family.
A music/comedy co-headline tour runs the risk of not landing. But, Hearon and DiRusso not only served in Philadelphia, but they served Philly with a stunningly cathartic night.
